Box breathing, also known as square breathing, is a simple technique in which inhalation, breath-holding, exhalation (and a second pause) are performed for equal durations, creating a steady and calming rhythm. Rooted in ancient yogic breathing practices and popularized in modern times by current psychology.
It is used to maintain composure, focus, and decision-making under stress. Clinical research on paced and slow breathing suggests benefits including reduced anxiety, improved autonomic regulation (e.g. heart rate variability), and enhanced emotional control, making box breathing a practical tool for relaxation and increasing living comfort.
This is a 4-7-8_dev calming breathing excercise.
